You are absolutely right about literary dialogue; it MUST reveal something about the character or it's useless...even if the only revelation is that the character has, indeed, no depth of character whatsoever... ;o) Thank you! ~BexRebecca Reecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07232267033592564824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492832166520819589.post-45814810306231015802011-09-19T08:58:18.350-07:002011-09-19T08:58:18.350-07:00I love this! I think studying real dialogue is helpful, but I don't think literary dialogue is always meant to be real. It could instead be shocking or surprising. It might be absurd or elliptical. The dialogic technique a writer chooses depends on what the writer intends to achieve. My rule is dialogue should always reveal something about the character.I Must Be Offhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12148155129334288438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7492832166520819589.post-4474180960571972992011-09-18T18:04:35.328-07:002011-09-18T18:04:35.328-07:00Love this Rebecca!
